Our
beloved pastor. Reverend Clarence Waldon went home to the God he loved
and served early Sunday morning, August 14, 2005. Father Waldon had
not been feeling well and was diagnosed in mid-July with pancreatic
cancer. Although he fought the good fight, the illness was very aggressive
and treatments were unable to arrest the progress of the disease. His
passing was peaceful and his journey home was filled with the faith
he lived.
Father
Waldon's life in the priesthood spanned 40 years which he celebrated
in the fall of 2004. For the past 35 years, he served as pastor of
Holy Angels Catholic Church and School. He last celebrated Sunday
mass on July 17 of 2005.
Visitation was held in Holy Angels Catholic Church on Wednesday, August
17, followed by a joyous evening prayer service. Parishioners and
friends alike turned out in gratifying numbers to pay respects to
Father Waldon, and to celebrate his life of service to church and
community. On Thursday, August 18, the funeral mass was held at Saints
Peter and Paul Cathedral, with many of Father Waldon's brother priests
in attendance. Archbishop Buechlein returned from a trip to Europe
to preside at the services. Holy Angels' own son, Father Kenneth Taylor
was the homilist. Following the mass, Father Waldon was laid to rest
in the Priests' Circle at Calvary Catholic Cemetary on the South side
of Indianapolis. His resting place is not far from the right hand
of a statue of Jesus Christ, the savior he served so well. A small
selection of photos follow below.
