Holy Angels Parish Handbook is given to each household of our parish so that everyone will have a clear understanding of what our parish family is and does and how it operates.

The Five Year Goals of Holy Angels Parish were adopted in 1995 and served as the basis for Vision 2000. These same goals have been adopted as our Five Year Goals to take us to 2005. At the Parish Assembly held January 30, 2000 new objectives were discussed and will be developed during 2000.

Goal 1 To Grow in Spirituality.
Goal 2 To Grow in Size.
Goal 3 To Grow in Service

It is as we collectively work and take responsibility (UJIMA), are united (UMOJA) and self-determined (KUJICHAGULIA), that we truly function as a Church family committed to building the Kingdom of God. There are many Committees and Organizations under the direction of Holy Angels Pastoral Council carrying out the mission of Jesus Christ at Holy Angels.

Holy Angels Parish Vision Statement

Holy Angels Parish is a Worshiping Community of Faith which provides for the Spiritual and Personal Growth of its members, Serves the Community and Shares its Faith with its brothers and sisters within the Catholic Church and the Northwest community.

Holy Angels Parish Family is made up of those Catholic Christians who have made a decision to be a Worshiping Community and take responsibility for spreading the Word of God within Holy Angels' geographical area.

Holy Angels exists to bring the Good News of Salvation to the people of God, as it is given to us through Jesus Christ. God does not save us individually, but as a people. Salvation is always a community affair. Salvation is a state of being, beginning on earth and lasting forever. Holy Angels' goal is to help all people experience God's Salvation here and now.

The Geographical Area of Holy Angels Parish encompasses the area bounded by 38th St. on the north, 16th St. on the south, Boulevard St. and Fall Creek on the east and White River on the west.

Ideas to Action

Holy Angels Parish goals and vision will only become a reality as many new, creative ideas come to the surface. For success an individual's idea must become the whole family's idea. The more broad-based support, the more people that have bought into the idea, the better chance it has of being successful. Ideas are a family affair.
Anyone can present an idea to the appropriate Committee. Each Committee has its purpose determined by its objectives. If it is not clear which Committee should receive the idea, the Staff or the Executive Committee will make the decision.
The appropriate Committee will discuss the idea and write up a proposal answering the questions:
Who What, Why, When, Where, How, Cost
The new proposal will then go from the Committee to the Ministry Committee, to the Parish Council and back to the Committee once it is accepted by the Council. In this way the whole parish takes responsibility and ownership for the total life of the parish.

What this looks like:

Stewardship at Holy Angels
What is a Steward?? Mt25:14-30 Luke 12:42-48
A Steward is one to whom the owner of a household turns over responsibility for caring for the property, managing affairs, making resources yield as much as possible and sharing the resources with others. The owner judges each steward according to what they have done with what they were given.
God calls us to be His collaborators in the work of creation, redemption and sanctification. God has created us in His image and likeness (Gn 1:26). As part of this resemblance, we are called to cooperate with the Creator in continuing the divine work of creation.
Baptism, initiation into the Body of Christ, makes us able to act explicitly on God's behalf in cultivating and serving the portion of the world entrusted to our care.
Because collectively we make up the Body of Christ, that body's health and well-being are the responsibility of all the members -- the personal responsibility of each one of us. Therefore, we must cherish and foster the gifts of all, while using our own gifts to serve our community of faith and the community in which we live.

GOOD STEWARDS
View the world and their relationship to it in a fresh, new light..
Understand that they are to share what they have received.

Are generous out of love as well as duty.

COMMITMENT TO STEWARDSHIP

In 1999 Holy Angels began following the Archdiocesan Stewardship Plan. This means that we make our Stewardship Commitment in November for the calendar year (January 1 through December 31).

The month of October is the time of preparation for our Stewardship Commitment. It is during this time that we have our Festival of Ministries, which showcases all the ministries of the parish. It gives parishioners an opportunity to see all the ministries at the same time and to talk with someone involved in the ministry.

In November we make our threefold commitment of Time, Talent and Treasure by making a commitment:
to ministries with which we wish to work;
to our parish (Sunday Contribution)
to the Archdiocese (United Catholic Appeal).
All of these commitments are for the next calendar year.

All of this presupposes that we are keeping our basic stewardship commitment of Sunday Mass. The Catholic Church considers regular Sunday Attendance at Mass a very serious matter. If we are going to develop a relationship with God and follow His Way, we have to get to know Him and worship Him regularly. Our basic Stewardship Commitment must be to attend Sunday Mass regularly.

HOW MUCH SHOULD A PERSON COMMIT?
Everyone's life is different. What one does is always between themselves and God. God knows us better than we know ourselves. We do not stand in judgement. At the same time, we feel that we should have a norm by which parishioners can measure their commitment and activity in our parish.

We would like to see each member of our parish, take part in at least two ministries each year, besides the festival which is a total parish activity and is not included in this guideline. We ask everyone 16 years and older to take some part in the three days of the Festival.

HOLY ANGELS
CATHOLIC SCHOOL

Holy Angels Catholic School is fully accredited by the State of Indiana. As a Catholic-Christian school, we serve the center-city community of Indianapolis.

Holy Angels Catholic School believes that the strengths of the child and the family are the focus for growth. Being an African American inner-city school, Holy Angels Catholic School's philosophy is based on the Nguzo Saba, the principles of: Unity, Self-Determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity and Faith.

The instructional program is an all-encompassing program rooted in the African American heritage and Catholic tradition. In addition to a basic educational program, emphasis is placed on developing qualities of leadership and self-expression with a focus on becoming African-American leaders for the future.

Holy Angels Catholic School is a major ministry and service of Holy Angels Church to the community. The tuition charged does not pay for the full cost of the education the children receive. The school receives subsidy from the Archdiocese and Holy Angels parish.

In 1999 we replaced the old school with a brand new school of eleven classrooms, a multi-purpose gym, two computer rooms and media center. We are tremendously proud of our new school.
