     The priest delivers a sermon or "homily" after the Gospel reading . The sermon is based upon the scriptures prescribed for that day, and relates the scriptural lesson to our everyday experiences. Although the sermon is often delivered from the pulpit, the priest may choose (as here) to deliver his remarks from the area in front of the congregation.
