Holy
Week 2008 began with a chilly Palm Sunday morning. Adapting
to the cold, blessing of palms took place in the lobby of
our school. The 9:00 am congregation processed from the
school across the parking lot to the church before circling
the worship space to begin the services. The 11:00 am congregation
processed around the block toward First Baptist North before
entering Holy Angels for worship, proclaiming our Christ
to the neighborhood.
This year,
the reading of the passion took on a new and dramatic format.
Father Taylor read the words of Jesus from in front of the
altar. Lay readers read the commentary and the parts of
key persons in the passion from opposite sides of the front
of the church, while the people recited the parts of each
group presented in the gospel story.
Father Taylor's
homilies challenged the congregation in new and exciting
ways. For instance, at the blessing of the palms, Father
Taylor inquired as to how the minor players in the historical
events may have encountered God's will in their parts of
the resurrection tale.
