Christmas
2008
The
2008-2009 Christmas season at Holy Angels spanned several weeks
from the end of our Advent 2008 observance - a time of preparation
- to the feast of the Baptism of the Lord, on the third weekend
following Christmas. Photo articles about the Christmas Concert
and Christmas Party, the start of our celebrations, and the Epiphany
- sometimes called "Little Christmas" are linked above.
For most of us,
Christmas itself is the centerpiece of the season. A family mass
was offered in the early evening on Christmas Eve, and a mass
was held on Christmas morning. But many parishioners and visitors
chose to worship at the Midnight Mass. Prior to the mass itself,
the choir offered carols, our liturgical dancers ministered with
song and pantomime, and a violin duet set the tone for this special
evening. The mass itself featured a processional with a figurine
of the Christ Child, blessing and lighting of our large, Afrocentric
nativity scene, repeated use of incense, song, scripture, and
Father Taylor's Christmas homily. The Eucharist as always was
central to our worship which included a special choir offering
of a contemporary version of "Silent Night".
