We
gathered just after sundown on Holy Saturday to celebrate
the resurrection of our Savior with the Easter vigil. A
large number of parishioners gathered in the evening coolness
in front of the school to participate in the blessing of
the new fire, the Pascal candle, and the procession of the
light into the darkened church. After Father Taylor's intoning
"Christ our light" to the congregation, candles
of the people were lighted. The joyous Easter proclamation,
the Exsultet, was sung, announcing the salvation of mankind
after our long time in darkness. Numerous scripture readings
followed along with the lighting of the church lights and
the return of the Gloria after its absence during much of
Lent. Also part of the worship were the Litany of the Saints,
solemn Easter Alleluia, and a special Easter Gospel and
sermon.
Father Taylor
blessed our baptismal font and proceeded with the happy
task of bringing 5 members - four from one family - to the
waters of baptism. Three were confirmed at the Easter vigil
service and all made their first Holy Communion. The entire
congregation participated with renewal of baptismal vows
and sprinkling with baptismal water. Communion united the
congregation with the risen Christ to complete the service.
Joyful music from the choir accompanied the late evening
liturgy.
