Although
the resurrection of the Christ was celebrated on the evening
of Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday with the light of daytime
has its own place in traditions of our salvation. Images
below are mostly from the 11:00 service which included the
baptism of one infant - allowing for an "almost immersion"
baptismal experience. The altar and entire church were decorated
in spring flowers - Easter lilies predominating and extending
down the side aisles of the church in each window. Joyous
music predominated throughout the service including the
once a year "Ye Sons and Daughters" and solemn
"Alleluia". Father Taylor repeated his joyful
homily message on this occasion of our salvation.
The baptism
was a special treat with its own symbols of Catholicism
and Afrocentricity combined with the popular hymn "On
Eagle's Wings". The congregation participated in the
baptismal rites, being sprinkled with baptismal waters.
Communion with the risen Christ was the high point - affirming
the resurrection of the savior and the completion of our
Lenten and Holy Week observances. A number of parishioners
who participated in Holy Saturday rites the night before
returned for this daytime celebration. The choir continued
its ministry with a special rendering of "Don't Cry"
accompanied by liturgical dance for the meditation song.
