Shortly
after sunset on Holy Saturday, pastor, servers, and parishioners
gather in front of Holy Angels School for the blessing of
the new fire,. The fire is ignited and blessed, the Pascal
Candle symbolizing the risen Christ, is blessed and inscribed,
lighted from the new fire, and carried in procession into
the darkened church. Father Taylor brings the lighted candle
up the main aisle, intoning "Christ our light"
3 times as the congregation genuflects responding "Thanks
be to God". Candles are lighted from the Pascal Candle,
placed prominently before the altar, and the Exsultet is
sung announcing the resurrection and our salvation. Scripture
readings and appropriate music follow, culminating as the
church is illuminated revealing fragrant flowers around
the altar, and "Glory to God in the highest" is
sung by all. The special Easter Alleluia, Easter Gospel
and homily renew the joyous message of the risen Christ.
The baptismal font is blessed, with the renewal of baptismal
vows and the sprinkling of blessed water on the parishioners.
The remainder of mass follows with communion and joyous
music - Jesus the Christ is Risen!
